The person who keeps coming to mind

You turned Five of Cups

Someone has been on your mind. Not constantly — just often enough that you have noticed the pattern, and maybe been annoyed by it. Whoever it is, the mind does not repeat a person for no reason: something between you is unfinished, or something in you is unfinished and they are the nearest name for it. Hold them in mind and turn a card.

Period of mourning, loss, or disappointment. Focusing on what was lost instead of what remains. Feel the sadness, but don't lose yourself in it.

Read against this connection, Five of Cups puts the weight on loss and grief. Read against a person, a card describes the pull rather than the person. This is the honest limit and the useful one: nothing here can tell you what they are feeling. It can tell you what the connection is doing in you, which is the part you can act on.

The same card has an opposite face, and it is worth holding both. Beginning to overcome loss, finding hope again. Acceptance of the past.

So sit with the question you arrived with — Why is this person still taking up room? — and notice which of the two readings you flinched at. That flinch is the reading. It is the one piece of this page that came from you rather than from the deck, and it is the only piece that can change anything.

Allow yourself to feel the pain, but remember: two cups still stand. Look forward.

We will not tell you they are thinking of you tonight. Nobody can know that. What a card can do is show you what you are actually holding on to — and that is the part that decides what happens next.
